A virtual machine residing on a NFS share does not start after migration with the following error message:
Unable to connect Hard Disk 1

A non-root account was used to connect to the destination server during migration.

Parallels Server Bare-metal uses root accounts while moving files during migration procedures from a remote server. Ownership of all files moved to a destination server are reset to root:root after migration. When the migration procedure is initiated from the non-root session utility, the migration procedure will not have enough privileges to run the VM.

There are two  possible solutions:
  • Retry the migration procedure under the root session from the destination server.
  • Use a root session on the destination server to recursively change ownership of all the files related to the corresponding Virtual Machine:
    ~# chown USER:GROUP -R /path/to/vm/folder
