Symptoms

It is not possible to start, mount, or create any container and you receive errors similar to the following:
[root@pvcfl ~]# vzctl mount 101
Unable to open lock file /vz/private/101/.lck: Read-only file system

or
[root@pvcfl ~]# vzctl enter 102
entered into Container 102
-bash: /etc/profile: Input/output error
exited from Container 102

or
[root@pvcfl ~]# vzquota stat 103
vzquota : (error) Can't open quota file for id 103, maybe you need to reinitialize quota: Read-only file system

Similar errors can be found in /var/log/messages:

Cause

Most likely, the iSCSI storage is corrupted or misconfigured.

Resolution

Make sure that iSCSI storage is configured correctly:

Verify that the physical disks in the iSCSI device are consistent and that there are no issues with the network or fibre channel connection.
