  • Applies to:
  • Virtuozzo containers for Windows

Symptoms

When trying to connect to a container using RDP, the connection is dropped.
At the same time, the container can be pinged and port 3389 can be accessed via telnet without any issues.

Cause

Most likely, the maximum allowed sessions limit for the container has been reached:
C:\Users\Administrator>vzlist -a -o veid,ip,numsessions,numsessions.b 101

     VEID  IP_ADDR      SESSIONS  SESSIONS.B
      101  10.20.30.40         2           2

Resolution

Increase the number of allowed sessions for the container:
vzctl set CTID --save --numsessions LIMIT

Example:
C:\Users\Administrator>vzctl set 101 --save --numsessions 4

C:\Users\Administrator>vzlist -a -o veid,ip,numsessions,numsessions.b 101

     VEID  IP_ADDR      SESSIONS  SESSIONS.B
      101  10.20.30.40         2           4

C:\Users\Administrator>

If it is not possible to increase the number of sessions because the container uses Terminal Services mode and requires more CALs, it is possible to simply disconnect some sessions:
qwinsta
rwinsta ID
Show\hide real life example:
Example:
C:\Users\Administrator>qwinsta
SESSIONNAME       USERNAME                 ID  STATE   TYPE        DEVICE
 services                                    0  Disc
 console                                     1  Conn
>rdp-tcp#1         Administrator             2  Active  rdpwd
 rdp-tcp#2         Administrator             3  Active  rdpwd
 rdp-tcp                                 65536  Listen

C:\Users\Administrator>rwinsta 3
