I install the Joomla application through Subscriber’s Control Panel >  Applications > joomla > Install. I try to configure the site's preferences through Joomla's Administrative interface. The following error is shown when I try to save the changes:

http://DOMAIN.TLD/joomla/administrator/index.php > Global Configuration > Save
Could not save data. Error: Could not write to the configuration file

The following error is shown in the domain's log file:

[Tue Apr 10 03:16:06 2012] [error] [client] PHP Warning:  file_put_contents(/var/www/vhosts/DOMAIN.TLD/httpdocs/joomla/configuration.php): failed to open stream: Permission denied in /var/www/vhosts/DOMAIN.TLD/httpdocs/joomla/libraries/joomla/filesystem/file.php on line 418, referer: http://DOMAIN.TLD/joomla/administrator/index.php?option=com_config

The issue may be caused by a "safe_mode = on" setting. The Joomla application requires safe_mode to be off.

This issue was fixed in a recent Micro-Update, so make sure that your server is up-to-date.
