Symptoms

Upgrade procedure fails with error:
 
===> Installing and configuring Named Server 
 
Checking for the system groups and users necessary for named (bind)... 
Checking for the group 'named'... 
Group 'named' already exists 
 
Checking for the user 'named'... 
User 'named' already exists 
 
Trying to untar named run-root directory structure... mknod: `dev/random': File exists 
mknod: `dev/urandom': File exists 
done 
Trying to set up default permissions... done 
Trying to stop service named... 
ERROR while trying to Unable to handle named 
Check the error reason(see log file: /tmp/plesk_10.4.4_installation.log), fix and try again 
 
tac: write error 
***** problem report ***** 
ERROR while trying to Unable to handle named 
Check the error reason(see log file: /tmp/plesk_10.4.4_installation.log), fix and try again 
 
ERROR: An error occurred during performing of installation POST actions (see log for details).

Cause

Bug in Plesk upgrade procedure.

Resolution


Execute following command before upgrade:
 
For RedHat and SuSE like OSes:
# chmod +x /etc/init.d/named
For Debian like OSes:
# chmod +x /etc/init.d/bind9
