Various issues may occur if mailbox name contain upper-case letter(s).

The non-working functions may include:

  • Delivery
  • Authorization
  • Autoresponder
  • Migration
  • Spam-filtering
  • Others


Run the below command to find mailbox name that containe upper-case letters.

# ls -R /var/qmail/mailnames | grep -v Maildir | grep -v attachments | grep : | grep [A-Z]


Rename the mailbox name.

Using the Plesk Panel GUI:

Go to Home > Subscriptions > subscription_name > Mail > mailbox_name > Email Address:

  • Change mailbox name from Mail.Name@domain.tld to mail.name1@domain.tld

  • Change mail.name1@domain.tld to

OR using CLI:

#  /usr/local/psa/bin/mail --rename Mail.Name@domain.tld -new mail.name1
SUCCESS: Renaming mailname 'Mail.Name@domain.tld' complete

#  /usr/local/psa/bin/mail --rename mail.name1@domain.tld  -new
SUCCESS: Renaming mailname 'mail.name1@domain.tld' complete
