Symptoms

If backup rotation was never configured, and the server runs out of disk space, the web interface (i.e., Power Panel) may become inaccessible.
This article describes how to clean up backups to free up some disk space.

Resolution

  1. Log in to the Hardware Node via SSH or RDP.

  2. Enlist backups and find the biggest or the oldest one:
    • For local backups:
      vzarestore --list --full
    • For backups stored remotely:
      vzarestore --list --full --storage USERNAME:PASSWORD@STORAGEHOST

NOTE: This operation makes sense only if you want to free up space on that remote storage node.

    Example:
    [root@myserver ~]# vzarestore --list --full | grep -iE 'backup|date|size|^$'
    Show existing backups...

  3. Remove the oldest or the biggest backup:
    • For local backups:
      vzarestore --remove BACKUPID
    • For backups stored remotely:
      vzarestore --remove BACKUPID --storage USERNAME:PASSWORD@STORAGEHOST

NOTE: This operation makes sense only if you want to free up space on that remote storage node.
