Parallels Server Bare Metal 5 has several types of updates:
  1. Core updates (CU) ‐ brings updates to kernel, kernel modules and firmware. Typical packages included:
    • vzkernel
    • vzkernel-devel
    • vzkernel-firmware
    • vzmodules
    • parallels-kmods
  2. Tools updates (TU) ‐ brings updates to userspace tools supplied with Parallels Server Bare Metal and their dependencies. Example of packages included:
    • parallels-server
    • parallels-virtualization-sdk
    • vzpkg
    • vzmigrate
    • apr-util
  3. Installer updates (SU) ‐ brings updates to vzup2date tools itself. Packages included:
    • vzup2date
  4. PVA Agent updates ‐ brings updates to PVA Agent components. Example of packages included:
    • pva-setup
    • pva-agent
    • pva-pp
    • pva-release

Installing updates


  1. Stop hardware virtualization service:
    service parallels-server stop
    NOTE: All virtual machines will be stopped after this step
     
  2. Disable automatic startup for virtualization service:
    chkconfig parallels-server off
  3. Install core updates with server reboot:
    vzup2date -m batch install --core --self-update --loader-autoconfig --reboot
    NOTE: This command will forcibly reboot the server without prompting. Omit --reboot flag to reboot manually.
     
  4. Install tools updates:
    vzup2date -m batch install --tools
  5. Enable automatic startup for virtualization service:
    chkconfig parallels-server on
  6. Start hardware virtualization service:
    service parallels-server start
  7. Install PVA Agent updates:
    pva-setup -r http://download.pa.parallels.com/pva/repo/agent --install
