Symptoms

A container fails to start with errors similar to these:

2014-06-02T15:11:01-0400 vzctl : Container 101 : ERROR: Can't copy file /etc/sysconfig/network
2014-06-02T15:11:01-0400 vzctl : Container 101 : /bin/cp: writing `/etc/sysconfig/network.15944': Disk quota exceeded
2014-06-02T15:11:01-0400 vzctl : Container 101 : vzquota : (warning) block_hard_limit [2147483747] < block_current_usage [2211831612]
2014-06-02T15:11:01-0400 vzctl : Container 101 : Container unmounted
2014-06-02T15:11:01-0400 vzctl : Container 101 : Container start failed``

Cause

The disk limits have been manually corrected and the hardlimit is now less than the current disk usage.

Resolution

  1. Increase the disk limit for the container:

    # vzctl set CTID --save --diskspace LIMIT

  2. Re-initialize the disk quota:

    # vzquota drop CTID
    # vzctl quotainit CTID

  3. Start the container:

    # vzctl start CTID
