Symptoms

I start the server, but shaman reboots it every several minutes. I see the following errors in /var/log/messages:

Jul 18 08:18:47 pcsnode snmpd[4996]: Got trap from peer on fd 12
Jul 18 08:19:18 pcsnode snmpd[4996]: Got trap from peer on fd 12

Jul 18 07:01:01 pcsnode kernel: [ 2674.811847] ERST: NVRAM ERST Log Address

Cause

The wrong time is set on server startup. For example:

  1. The node is two hours ahead of the correct time.
  2. Shaman gets this time.
  3. ntpd synchronizes with the server and sets the correct time on the server.
  4. Shaman gets another time, causing the node to experience a kernel panic.

Resolution

Set the correct time on startup.
