I have created a Cloud Storage cluster. What are the preferred replication\location parameters?
Recommended replication level is 3:2. In this case the cluster can survive a failure of 2 chunk servers.
- The recommendation of setting the normal replication level to 3 is in order to survive the loss of 2 nodes.
- The minimum number of replicas sets the limit when write operations to a chunk are blocked until there is the needed number of replicas. Setting normal and minimum replication level to the same value is not recommended, because there will be always such urgent situation and the performance of virtual environments will be affected greatly.
- For this reason, the minimum number of replicas should be less than the normal limit. In the production environment, it can be supposed that one node can be marked as failed and another one on a short maintenance period, This results in the requirement to set the minimum replication level to 2, and the normal replication level to 3.
Information on configuring replication parameters can be found here: Configuring Replication Parameters
Location parameters have been replaced with failure domains and these options should be chosen according to the cluster configuration.
More information on failure domains parameters configuration can be found here: Configuring Failure Domains
