Symptoms

How to limit backup\migration speed for containers and virtual machines?

Resolution

Since 2.6.32-042stab063.2 kernel, it is possible to limit the speed of backup and migration operations by means of special settings in /etc/vz/vz.conf :

VZ_TOOLS_BCID="ID"
    Enables disk IO limits for backup, restore, and migration operations. Make sure that no Container with the specified ID exists on the Node.

VZ_TOOLS_IOLIMIT="limit"
    Sets the disk IO limit for backup, restore, and migration operations, in bytes per second.

To enable these limits, uncomment the corresponding lines in vz.conf and restart PVA Agent service:

~# pvaagent restart

NOTE 1: The backup/migration limits for virtual machines are available starting from Parallels Cloud Server 6.0. Online migration of virtual machines can not be limited.
NOTE 2: To limit the backup operations, which are done by vzabackup/vzarestore utilities, it's required to install PVA 6.0 update 2
