Installing Plesk as an application template in Parallels Virtuozzo Containers environment takes a very long time, up to 1-2 hours. The Plesk version in use is 10.x/11.x.

In the past, with Plesk 8.x/9.x, the installation through a template was faster and took about 10-15 minutes.

Why the Plesk installation takes so much time now?

The installation of Plesk as a template procedure has been redesigned, starting from version 10. Now the installation of Plesk application template consists of the following stages :

  1. Installing all Plesk MSIs inside the container. The MSIs are copied from the template area to the C:\ParallelsInstaller\parallels directory.

  2. Converting the real files of the Plesk installation into VZFS links to the template area.

On previous Plesk versions steps 1 and 2 did not exist. Instead, the whole Plesk installation was packed into the template, which was unfolded into the container upon adding the template to a container.

  3. Downloading and installing all available microupdates from the Plesk repository.

With the increasing of the amount of microupdates for each Plesk version, the amount of time, required for step 3, grows as well.
