After adding swap to a container:

~# vzctl set CTID --swappages 0:1024M --save
UBC limits were set successfully
Saved parameters for Container 2064

The changes are not applied, as seen from the inside CT:

~# vzctl exec CTID free -m
total used free shared buffers cached
Mem: 256 221 34 0 0 41
-/+ buffers/cache: 179 76
Swap: 0 0 0

SLM mode is set to "slm" for the container, which is obsolete, starting from PVC version 4.7.

Swappages are only supported by the "vSwap" memory management scheme, which becomes available in "ubc" or "all" modes.

Change SLM mode to "all" or "ubc" :

~# vzctl set CTID --slmmode all --save

Restart of the container is not required.
