It is not possible to restore a backup of a container:
~# vzrestore localhost -e 101010 ......... /bin/vztar: Cannot rename fs/root/usr/local/cpanel/base/3rdparty/roundcube/plugins/subscriptions_option/tests to fs/root/usr/local/cpanel/base/3rdparty/phpMyAdmin/locale/uk/LC_MESSAGES
The root cause of the issue is that there is inconsistency between current file-system state and saved information in the incremental backup. In order to optimize and speed-up archiving and restoring process,
tar saved inodes numbers of archived files.
Upon restoring a file with several hard-links, a collision may occur and the file cannot be extracted properly. This happens seldom with hard-linked files, if not all of those files are saved in the same incremental part of the archive.
tar deficiency in certain circumstances, it is recommended to use Acronis-based tool
vzabackup for creating archives of virtual environments. This tool is a part of Virtual Automation agent, and it ensures consistency using kernel modules.
Another solution is to convert a container to Ploop format and place container's file-system to a dedicated block device. Backup related operations are faster, more efficient and require less resources.
