  • Virtuozzo containers for Linux

Symptoms

After the server reboot or PVC update containers do not start with the following error message:

    ~# vzctl start 1005
    Starting Container ...
    Container mounted
    Error: Virtuozzo service does not running
    Unable to get osrelease from centos-5-x86_64
    Skip osrelease setup
    Setup slm memory limit
    Setup slm subgroup (default)
    Invalid kernel, or some Virtuozzo kernel modules are not loaded
    Start of Container failed
    Container unmounted
    Container start failed

Cause

Runlevel information for vz service is not specified correctly:

    ~# chkconfig --list vz
    vz              0:off    1:off   2:off   3:off   4:off   5:off   6:off

Resolution

  1. vz service can be started using the following command:

    ~# service vz start

  2. The default configuration for vz service is to start on 2,3,4,5 runlevels:

    ~# head /etc/init.d/vz
    #!/bin/sh
    # Virtuozzo startup script

    ###

    # chkconfig: 2345 96 20                     <===
    # description: Virtuozzo startup script.

So the following command will reconfigure the service properly:

    ~# chkconfig vz on
