Symptoms

  1. A virtual machine cannot be resumed with the following error message:

    # prlctl resume MyVM
    Resuming the VM...
Failed to resume the VM: The operation could not be completed because there was a problem reading the virtual machine location. The hard disk storing the virtual machine "MyVM" is slow. The virtual machine will be paused until disk reading speed is increased.

  2. The virtual machine is running on a Parallels Cloud Server (PCS) node which is a part of a PStorage cluster.

  3. There are replicas marked as Blocked or Urgent, or some CS nodes are shown as failed or with low disk space in output of the following command:

    pstorage -c <cluster_name> stat

Cause

The PStorage cluster is not healthy. Replicas cannot be allocated for the virtual machine's configuration file or virtual hard drive. As a result, access to these files is blocked.

Also, such issue appears if the cluster lost unique replicas (for example, during node reboot in cluster with replication level 1:1).

Resolution

Check the cluster status using the command pstorage -c ClusteName top, it might be necessary to perform one of the following actions to return to healthy state:

  1. Failed CS nodes should be replaced as soon as possible.
  2. If CS nodes show low disk space, add a new/empty node in the proper tier. This should help to resolve the replication issue for "Urgent" replicas.
