I want to install Plesk MS SQL server to location different from default.

For examples if I install SQL 2008 server separately, it allows me to specify the location of the databases, where I want to point to drive D: for all instances.

Plesk does not allow to modify location of components installed trough autoinstaller, including MS SQL server.

If you want to install MS SQL server to different location, you have to apply next steps:

  1. Set up new clean Windows server. Install additionally IIS role and .NET framework

  2. Install standalone MS SQL server to desired location.

  3. Install Plesk Panel trough autoinstaller without MS SQL component.

  4. Register external MS SQL(installed in step 2) server in Plesk according to the documentation.

Another solution is to install Plesk with default MSSQL server component to default location, and change data and log files location according Microsoft knowledge base article:

View or Change the Default Locations for Data and Log Files (SQL Server Management Studio)
