Symptoms

All prl* commands fail with the following error:

Login failed: Unable to connect to Parallels Server. You may experience a connection problem or the server may be down. Contact your Parallels Server administrator for assistance.

The dispatcher service is stopped:

[root@vz ~]# /etc/init.d/parallels-server status
parallels-server is stopped

Cause

prl* utilities cannot connect to dispatcher service.

Resolution

Start 'parallels-server' service:

[root@vz ~]# /etc/init.d/parallels-server start
Starting Parallels Cloud Server:                           [  OK  ]
Load OOM groups                                            [  OK  ]
Starting Parallels services
    Loading Parallels kernel modules:                      [  OK  ]
    Starting Parallels network daemon:                     [  OK  ]
    Starting Parallels dispatcher daemon:                  [  OK  ]

[root@vz~]# /etc/init.d/parallels-server status
parallels-server (pid  206279) is running...

[root@vz ~]# prlctl list -a
UUID                                    STATUS       IP_ADDR         T  NAME
{a8146519-5a5v-4922-b4c4-0525re4f5a63}  running      1.2.3.4         CT 1
{6e8a54cc-72cc-4abe-b5v0-27f41e38e522}  running      2.3.4.5         CT TEST
