Cyrus-imapd does not restart/stop due to a problem with the incorrect name of the service's PID file:

root@localhost:/# /etc/init.d/cyrus-imapd restart
+ start-stop-daemon --stop --quiet --retry=QUIT/30/TERM/10/KILL/5 --pidfile /var/run/ --name cyrmaster
root@localhost:/# ls -l /var/run/cyrus*.pid
-rw-r--r-- 1 root root 4 May 5 11:03 /var/run/

That is, the name of the actual PID file does not match the name specified in the start script.

The affected OS template for containers: Ubuntu 14.04, both 32 and 64 bit.

Debian Bug ID for the issue is #743013.

The issue will be fixed in the future upstream releases.

Setting PIDFILE=/var/run/ in /etc/default/cyrus-imapd works around this problem:

# invoke-rc.d cyrus-imapd restart
[ ok ] Restarting Cyrus IMAPd: cyrmaster.
