  1. An attempt to create database dump fails with the following error:

    mysqldump: unknown option '--max_allowed_packet 512M'
  2. The /etc/my.cnf has the following option:

    max_allowed_packet 512M

Incorrect syntax in /etc/my.cnf, the option name and the value should be separated with '=' symbol.

  1. Edit /etc/my.cnf, you can use the

    vi /etc/my.cnf

command for example. The max_allowed_packet requires '=' symbol before size number, so it should look like:

  2. Restart mysql:

    service mysql restart
