If you have taken dedicated servers at some hosting provider and you do not arrive to convince the provider to put the PCS netinstall image into the set of standard images to deploy, the KVM option could be not working because of the connection speed. In this case:

  1. Install Standard CentOS 6.x and configure Internet access

  2. Download PCS netinstall ISO image to the local disc (ex. to /root) from here.

  3. Mount the PCS netinstall ISO to some folder:

    # mount -o loop -t iso9660 /root/parallels-server-6.0.7-2195-x86_64-netinstall.iso /mnt/iso
  4. Copy the content of isolinux folder to the server's /boot:

    # cp /mnt/iso/isolinux/* /boot/
  5. Backup the standard CentOS grub config file:

    # сp /etc/grub.conf{,.backup}
  6. Reconfigure Grub - edit /etc/grub.conf for booting into PCS installer:

    # cat /etc/grub.conf
    # grub.conf generated by anaconda
    # Note that you do not have to rerun grub after making changes to this file
    # NOTICE: You have a /boot partition. This means that
    # all kernel and initrd paths are relative to /boot/, eg.
    # root (hd0,0)
    # kernel /vmlinuz-version ro root=/dev/sda2
    # initrd /initrd-[generic-]version.img
#taken from /mnt/iso/isolinux/grup.conf, placeholders replaced by real values.

            root (hd0,0)
            kernel /vmlinuz ro root=UUID=07d55bb6-03fa-4b07-8dde-dd7f0b0deb77
            initrd /initrd.img
#kept untouched from the current working /etc/grub.conf
    title CentOS (2.6.32-431.el6.x86_64)

            kernel /vmlinuz-2.6.32-431.el6.x86_64 ro root=UUID=07d55bb6-03fa-4b07-8dde-dd7f0b0deb77 rd_NO_LUKS rd_NO_LVM LANG=en_US.UTF-8 rd_NO_MD SYSFONT=latarcyrheb-sun16 crashkernel=auto KEYBOARDTYPE=pc KEYTABLE=us rd_NO_DM rhgb quiet
            initrd /initramfs-2.6.32-431.el6.x86_64.img

NOTE: "root=..." in kernel options and 'root (hd0,0)' should be taken from current CentOS 6.5 config, also check if '/boot/' is absent or not before path to kernel\initrd - it should be the same as in native Centos config.

  7. Reboot and choose PCS installation.

  8. In installation Method choose "URL".

  9. Configure network and proxy(if needed) and proceed with the installation.
