A website that runs PHP as Fast-CGI application cannot be opened in a browser and produces the following error:

Service Temporarily Unavailable

In /var/log/httpd/suexec.log we see:

user mismatch (atmail instead of apache)

In /var/www/domain.tld/statistics/logs/error_log:

mod_fcgid: can't apply process slot for /var/www/cgi-bin/cgi_wrapper/cgi_wrapper

Atmail user is specified in apache configuration file instead of Apache user.

  1. Backup the original Apache configuration file:

    cp -a /etc/httpd/conf/httpd.conf /etc/httpd/conf/httpd.conf.orig
  2. Edit /etc/httpd/conf/httpd.conf to change User from 'atmail' to 'apache':

    # grep -ir user /etc/httpd/conf/httpd.conf |grep -v '#'
    User apache
  3. Reload apache configuration:

    /etc/init.d/httpd reload
