Is it possible to install PowerShell 3.0 into container on Windows 2008 R2 SP1

Yes, PowerShell 3.0 can be installed in a container on Windows 2008 R2 SP1

Note, due to PowerShell 3.0 requirements .NET Framework 4.0. and PowerShell-ISE role should be pre-installed into the container. Also PowerShell 3.0 cannot be installed to the 2008R2 without SP1

Steps to deploy Powershell 3.0 to a Windows 2008 R2 SP1 container:

  1. Install PowerShell-ISE role to the container and reboot it (replace %VPSID% with the actual container ID).

vzctl exec --skiplock %VPSID% ServerManagerCmd -install PowerShell-ISE -restart
  2. Install NetFramefwork 4.0 into container

  3. Install Powershell 3.0 into container.
