ERROR:spammng:Unable to start SpamAssassin service ('--start', 'spamassassin')

In the /var/log/messages we can see the following:

spamd: server socket setup failed, retry 7: spamd: could not create IO::Socket::IP socket on []:783: Address already in use

This is a spamassassin software issue 6953

  1. Stop spamassassin service.

    service spamassassin stop
  2. Open for editing spamassassin config file:

    vi /etc/sysconfig/spamassassin
  3. Add to end of SPAMDOPTIONS the following option "-i ::" The resulting line should be look like:

    SPAMDOPTIONS="--nouser-config --username=popuser --daemonize --helper-home-dir=/var/qmail --virtual-config-dir=/var/qmail/mailnames/%d/%l/.spamassassin --create-prefs --max-children=5 -i ::"
  4. Save the spamassassin config file.
  5. Start the spamassassin.

    service spamassassin start

Note: If change any setting under Tools & Settings > Spam Filter page it will overwrite spamassassin modification and remove -i :: option. Such behavior considered to be software issue PPPM-4084 and will be fixed in future Plesk updates.

Custom fix for Ubuntu 14.04.3 LTS with Plesk 12.5 in attachment. Replace from attachment with /usr/local/psa/lib/modules/python/spammng/
