Symptoms

VZFS-based container cannot be migrated or converted to ploop format.

  1. On destination side in /var/log/messages the following errors are logged:

vzctl : quotaon: using //aquota.group on /dev/vzfs [/]: No such device
vzctl : quotaon: using //aquota.user on /dev/vzfs [/]: No such device
vzctl : Failed to turn quota on
vzctl : Failed to setup 2nd level quota
vzctl : Failed to start the Container
    /usr/sbin/vzctl exited with code 65

  2. The container has second level quota enabled.
  3. quota package inside the container is older than quota-3.13-8.el5.

Cause

quota package with versions older than 3.13-8.el5 is not supported.

Resolution

There are two solutions, it is possible to use one of them:

  1. Update quota package inside the container before the migration.

  2. Turn off second level quota before the migration, turn it on after, and restart the container to apply the quota settings:

    [root@source ~]# vzctl set $CTID --save --quotaugidlimit 0
    [root@dest ~]# vzctl set $CTID --save --quotaugidlimit $QUOTAVALUE
    [root@dest ~]# vzctl restart $CTID
