  • Nginx service fails to start on system boot, the following error found in /var/log/boot.log

nginx: [emerg] bind() to failed (99: Cannot assign requested address)
  • prl_net_tool command was initiated prior(or at the moment) the nginx start

    root@vm:~# grep prl_nettool /var/log/syslog
    Aug 12 15:06:33 shops prl_nettool[1075]: call: prl_nettool prl_nettool set --ip 00:1c:42:11:11:11 " " --gateway 00:1c:42:11:11:11 " "
    root@vm:~# grep 15:06:33 /var/log/nginx/error.log
2015/08/12 15:06:33 [emerg] 688#0: bind() to failed (99: Cannot assign requested address)

Race condition between nginx service startup and network configuration by Parallels Tools.

  • If the IP address should be maintained manually inside of the VM, then ip config should be deleted from virtual machine configuration on the node level, or parallels tools can be deleted from inside of the virtual machine

  • it is possible to disable synchronization of IP settings

  • If IP synchronization is needed, then all the services that require network to be running can be restarted on network restart, e.g. for nginx

    root@vm:~# cat /etc/network/if-up.d/nginx-restart
    /etc/init.d/nginx restart
