  • Applies to:
  • Virtuozzo containers for Windows 4.0
  • Virtuozzo for Windows 3.5.1 SP1
  • Virtuozzo for Windows 3.5.1

Symptoms

Virtual Environmets fail to start and Windows event log contains the following entry:

The description for Event ID ( 1 ) in Source ( vzcore ) cannot be found. The local computer may not have the necessary registry information or message DLL files to display messages from a remote computer. You may be able to use the /AUXSOURCE= flag to retrieve this description; see Help and Support for details. The following information is part of the event: , SYSTEM IS IN LOW MEMORY!!! Fail to start VE VEID=.

Cause

/3gb switch is configured in boot.ini, but not configured in Virtuozzo

Resolution

Since Virtuozzo manages the memory split between the kernel and the userspace on the Hardware Node (HN), Virtuozzo should be explicitly configured on the HN which uses /3GB boot option in boot.ini.

From a Command Prompt window, you would use the following Command Line Interface (CLI) utility to do this:

vzsyscfg set --memmap list
Select memory map:
[1] 2GB
[2] 3GB
[c] Cancel

You would select 2 and hit Enter.

The vzsyscfg utility will make Virtuozzo compatible with /3GB: When you remove the /3GB option from boot.ini, please make sure to configure Virtuozzo to the default (2GB) setting, using the same CLI utility.

vzsyscfg set --memmap list
Select memory map:
[1] 2GB
[2] 3GB
[c] Cancel

You would select 1 and hit Enter.
