When I’m migrating a physical server to a Virtual Environment (VE) using the P2V migration tool, I get the following error message:

Operation migrate_p2v with the VE(s) VEID777 from to VE#777 is finished with errors: #3401 P2V migration failed : SWAHaulControlOperator with id ‘ vzlinmigrate_p2v_serializer' stage 'SetActiveVolumes' failed : Failed to create snapshot.

I see the following error in Event Viewer on physical host:

Event Type: Error
Event Source: VolSnap
Event Category: None
Event ID: 41
Date: 18.09.2006
Time: 22:31:05
User: N/A
Computer: VZWIN
Description: When preparing a new volume shadow copy for volume C:, the shadow copy storage on volume D: did not have sufficiently large contiguous blocks. Consider deleting unnecessary files on the shadow copy storage volume or use a different shadow copy storage volume.

Likely the reason is due to a shortage of disk space.

Currently, the p2v migration tool operates in the following manner:

1. Installs the SWagent on the remote physical server.

2. Performs a VSS(Volume Shadow Copy) copy.

3. Transfers the shadow copy to the Virtuozzo node.

4. Creates a VE for this copy.

5. Restores the shadow copy restore inside the newly created VE.

Based on the error message, the problem occurs during the second step outlined above.

To resolve this, you will need to increase disk space which is set as volume shadow copy location.
