This error means that Plesk was not able to start the "named" service. There are many possible reasons for this. To diagnose the source of the problem, perform the following steps:

- Check if "named" is running:

# ps ax | grep named

- If not, try to start it:
# /etc/init.d/named start

Then examine the "/var/log/messages" log file for "named" startup errors. You may see errors like those below: 

      named[7663]: could not configure root hints from 'named.root': file not found
      named[7663]: loading configuration: file not found
      named[7663]: exiting (due to fatal error)
      named: named startup failed

If you see the above errors, make sure that the caching-nameserver and bind-chroot packages are not installed in the system. If they exist, delete them. Also see 324.
