There are several options for upgrading a server running PSA 5 to Plesk 7.1 (Reloaded). The options vary from upgrading the existing server to moving the PSA 5 data to a new server running Plesk 7 Reloaded.
Option 1. Only for PSA 5 servers on Red Hat 7.3).
Upgrading your existing server quickly to Plesk 7 Reloaded is possible if you’re running Red Hat 7.3 (compatible with both PSA 5 and Plesk 7 Reloaded). Red Hat 7.3 is the only operating system compatible with both releases. To perform these upgrades log in anonymously to http://download1.swsoft.com/ and download the Plesk 6 software and release notes for Red Hat 7.3. Follow the upgrade instructions for upgrading to Plesk 6 using the Auto-Installer. In addition download the Plesk 7 and 7.1 Reloaded Auto-Installers for Red Hat 7.3 which can be found in the same FTP directory. You should be able to use the Plesk 7.1 (Reloaded) auto-installer to upgrade the Plesk 6 server directly to Plesk 7 Reloaded.
Note: The upgrade from Plesk 6 to Plesk 7.1 has not officially been tested but there have been successful upgrades directly to Plesk 7.1 from Plesk 6. If for any reason this does not work you will need to perform the upgrade to Plesk 7 and then to Plesk 7.1 Reloaded.
Option 2. Moving to a New Server.
One of the easiest methods for upgrading a PSA 5 system is to perform a data migration directly to Plesk 7 Reloaded on a new server. This is one of the most efficient methods for several reasons. First, you don’t have any of the upgrade processes or system considerations required by a manual software upgrade and second, you can upgrade hardware and operating systems in one quick move rather than having to backup and restore data on multiple systems or the same system. To perform this option simply install Plesk 7.1 on any supported OS. Use the new Migration Manager feature to import the PSA 5 customers directly to the new server.
Option 3. Upgrading PSA 5 servers on non supported Operating Systems.
It is possible to upgrade a PSA 5 system running on an OS other than Red Hat 7.3. Using the PSA 5 Backup and Restore utilities. Backup the entire system. At this point you have several options…
- Restore the backup on a new server running PSA 5 on Red Hat 7.3 and then upgrade the new server to Plesk 6 and then directly to Plesk 7 Reloaded on Red Hat 7.3. If you wanted to repeat the backup and restore process you could then move your data to any server running Plesk 7 Reloaded on any supported OS (except Windows).
- Store your new PSA 5 backup dump file in a safe accessible place off the system. Completely remove your existing Plesk installation and re-install Red Hat 7.3 and PSA 5 on the server. Restore your backup dump file back to the system. (Note: Be sure to create an IP map when backing up your system using this method to save time.) You should now have PSA 5 running on Red Hat 7.3 which can be upgraded to Plesk 6 and then directly to Plesk 7 Reloaded.
