  • Applies to:
  • Plesk 8.6 for Linux/Unix
  • Plesk 8.4 for Linux/Unix

Symptoms

Logging in to Horde webmail is not possible because POP3/IMAP/SMTP authorization does not work. The following error occurs in the maillog when trying to authorize:

/usr/local/psa/var/log/maillog
..............
LOGIN FAILED, ip=[127.0.0.1]
IMAP connect from @ [127.0.0.1]checkmailpasswd: unable to open mail authentication database: No such file or directory

..............

Cause

The Berkeley Database with the credentials of all mail accounts is missing.

~# ls -l /var/lib/plesk/mail/auth/passwd.db
ls: /var/lib/plesk/mail/auth/passwd.db: No such file or directory
~#

Resolution

The database should be recreated. Use the Parallels Plesk Panel utility mail_auth_dump:

~# /usr/local/psa/admin/sbin/mail_auth_dump

~# file /var/lib/plesk/mail/auth/passwd.db
/var/lib/plesk/mail/auth/passwd.db: Berkeley DB (Btree, version 9, native byte-order)
~#

Additional Information

The exact location of the Parallels Plesk Panel product root directory can be found in "/etc/psa/psa.conf."

/etc/psa/psa.conf
..............
PRODUCT_ROOT_D /usr/local/psa
