Symptoms

Sometimes, for troubleshooting purposes, it is required to increase the log level of Parallels Virtuozzo Agent (VZAgent).

Solution

1. How to increase Virtuozzo Agent’s log level using Parallels Management Console:

Open PMC, right-click on the node, and choose Tasks, Manage Parallels Agent Configuration. Select system, configuration. In the right pane is the log_level value (default 3); change it to 6, and click Apply.

Note that a restart of the VZAgent service is not required.
After troubleshooting is complete, it is recommended to revert the log_level value back to 3 to avoid huge VZAgent logs.

2. How to increase Virtuozzo Agent’s log level using the vzagent.conf file:

PVC for Windows:

2.1. Open the file below on the Hardware Node:

x:\vz\VZAgent\etc\vzagent.conf

(where x:\ is the drive where the VZ folder is located)

2.2. Change the current value to 6 under the “log_level” tag:

<log_level>6</log_level>

  2.3. Save the vzagent.conf file.

2.4. Restart VZAgent service by means of service snap-in.

VZAgent service can also be restarted by means of this command:

sc stop vzaop &sc start vzaop

It is strongly recommended to decrease the log level to the default value, 3, as soon as troubleshooting is complete.

Note: The Submit Support Issue wizard allows you to collect and send all necessary log files to the Parallels support team.

PVC for Linux:

2.1. Open the file below on the Hardware Node:
# vi /var/vzagent/etc/vzagent.conf

  2.2. Change current log_level value from 3 to 6:
<log_level>6</log_level>

  2.3. Save vzagent.conf file.

2.4. Restart VZAgent service in order to apply the new setting:
# vzagent_ctl restart

It is strongly recommended to decrease the log level to the default value, 3, as soon as troubleshooting is complete.

Instead of steps 2.1 - 2.4 you may use this script: vzalog.

Note: Submit a support issue to the Parallels support team using the vzreport utility. Simply run the vzreport command and specify in its subject field your ticket ID, e.g., [Parallels #1234567]. It will collect all necessary log files for the Parallels support team.
