Synopsis: New Parallels Infrastructure Manager 4.0 update provides fixes related to SOAP, migration, backup, network, command line interface, and templates management functionality.
Issue date: 2008-08-25
Product: Parallels Infrastructure Manager 4.0
Keywords: backups security compat SOAP migration templates network
1. Subject:

Updated packages for Parallels Infrastructure Manager 4.0 providing user-level tools fixes for the following functionality:
- SOAP (Simple Object Access Protocol);
- migrating Containers between Hardware Nodes;
- templates management;
- backup and restore.

2. Problem description:

- The order of a Container's IP addresses is not respected. The latter are always reported in the alphabetic order.
- The vzcp process start eats 100% of CPU after parsing a packet from Qualys Vulnerability Scanner.
- The vzmigrate utility does not allow the user to specify the user name in the DOMAIN\USERNAME notation.
- Parallels Infrastructure Manager does not allow the user to specify search domains for network adapters without dots.
- When a scheduled task is created, the start time is reset to midnight every time the task is modified.
- Problem registering a Node running a Spanish version of Windows in PBAS.
- Once a gateway is assigned to a bridged adapter, there is no way to remove it.
- If a Windows Hardware Node has a lot of VLAN adapters connected to different NICs, Parallels Infrastructure Manager duplicates them on the Hardware Node's network adapters screen.
- The process of restoring a Container on a Hardware Node other than the original one may fail.

All Parallels Infrastructure Manager 4.0 users are advised to update their tools packages.

3. Affected components description:

- Parallels Infrastructure Manager is a tool designed for managing Hardware Nodes and all Containers residing on them with the help of a standard Web browser on any platform.

- Parallels Management Console is a Virtuozzo Containers management and monitoring tool with graphical user interface. It is used to control individual Hardware Nodes and their Containers. Management Console is cross-platform and runs on both Microsoft Windows and Linux workstations.

- Parallels Power Panel is a means for administering individual Containers with the help of a standard Web browser on any platform.

- Parallels Agent (or Parallels Agent Protocol) is an XML-based protocol used to monitor and manage Hardware Nodes and their Containers. The Parallels Agent software implements this protocol and is a backend for Virtuozzo tools (Parallels Infrastructure Manager, Parallels Management Console, and Parallels Power Panel).

5. Obtaining and Installation:

Important note: On a Windows Hardware Node, do not install this update unless VZU400006 (a Parallels Virtuozzo Containers update) is installed.

On the Virtuozzo Windows host, run Virtuozzo Update Wizard (vzupdate.exe) and follow the instructions. This wizard will install all the recent Parallels Infrastructure Manager updates and hotfixes in the correct sequence.

The update does not require Virtuozzo restart or system reboot.

PIMU400005 update consists of two updates TU-4.0.0-439 and TU-4.0.0-440:

You can also download and install this tools update using the vzup2date utility included in the Virtuozzo Containers 4.0 distribution.

First, use the "rpm -Fhv" command to install the new Virtuozzo Containers tools packages.

# rpm -Fhv virtuozzo-release-4.0.0-439.swsoft.i386.rpm \
virtuozzo-tools-4.0.0-440.42.i386.rpm \
vzagent-distribution-4.0.0-351.42.swsoft.i386.rpm \
vzagent-opcontrol-4.0.0-351.42.swsoft.i386.rpm \
vzlinmigrate-lib-4.0.0-42.swsoft.i386.rpm \

Then make sure that the Service Container on the Node is running and issue the following command:
# vzsveupgrade --skip-client -d <path_to_this_update_directory>

The update does not require Virtuozzo restart or system reboot.
