Microsoft Windows Server 2003, 2008 and 2012 do not install Collaboration Data Objects (CDO) for NTS (CDONTS). Therefore, applications using CDONTS will not work.

To get CDONTS to work on a Windows Server 2003, 2008 or 2012, please do the following:

1. On Windows 2008 and 2012, "IIS 6 Management Compatibility" service of "Web Server (IIS)" role should be installed through "Server Manager".

2. Download the attached CDONTS.ZIP file (you can also get the CDONTS.DLL component from the installation CD of Windows 2000). Once downloaded, unzip CDONTS.DLL and put its contents in the appropriate folder.

For 32-bit systems:
%systemroot%\system32 folder (by default C:\Windows\system32)

For 64-bit systems:
%windir%\syswow64 (by default C:\Windows\syswow64)

3. Register the CDONTS.DLL component in the server using the appropriate command.

For 32-bit systems:
regsvr32 "%systemroot%\system32\cdonts.dll"

For example:

C:\WINDOWS\system32>regsvr32.exe cdonts.dll

For 64-bit systems:
regsvr32 "%systemroot%\syswow64\cdonts.dll"

For example:

C:\WINDOWS\syswow64>regsvr32.exe cdonts.dll

4. Once the CDONTS.DLL component is registered, you should check if your SMTP service is running.

Go to Administrative tools > IIS Manager ("IIS 6.0 Manager" on Windows 2008 and 2012) and expand your local server. If the SMTP service is listed, this means that it is already installed. If not, you should install this service.

To install SMTP, do the following:

  • On Windows 2003: go to Control Panel > Add/Remove Programs > Add/Remove Windows Components > Application Server > IIS, Select SMTP service, and Click "OK."
  • On Windows 2008 and 2012: In Server Manager > Features add feature "SMTP Server".
5. Configure SMTP server, by right-clicking on SMTP server in IIS Manager ("IIS 6.0 Manager" on Windows 2008 and 2012) and choosing "Properties":

a. If another mail server is already running on the server (e.g. MailEnable) port should be changed. This can be done on "General" tab with "Advanced" button.
b. Set up fully qualified domain name (FQDN) for SMTP server: on "Delivery" tab press "Advanced" button and specify server's FQDN.
c. On "Security" tab add group IIS_WPG to the list of operators: click "Add" button, click "Object Types" button and select "Groups" checkbox. Click "OK', enter "IIS_WPG" (without quotes) as the object name to add and click "OK".

6. Assign write permissions for the psacln group on the "inetpub\mailroot\pickup" directory (if directory does not exist, create it).

Note that custom permissions will be lost during a Parallels Plesk Panel upgrade. To avoid losing custom permissions during an upgrade, use the instructions provided in the "Customizing Disk Security" chapter of the Parallels Plesk Panel advanced administration guide.
