Parallels Virtuozzo Containers (PVC) is tightly integrated with the Windows Server internals. Since the internal functionality can be subject to change in updates from Microsoft, PVC may require adjustments to comply with these changes. To guarantee PVC compatibility with the recent Windows updates, Parallels issues updates to PVC regularly. These updates have to be installed prior to installing Windows updates. Use the following procedure to install Windows updates from Microsoft and PVC updates from Parallels on the PVC Hardware Node:

  1. Use the Parallels Virtuozzo Update Wizard to install PVC updates.
  2. Reboot the PVC node.
  3. Use the Windows Automatic Update service on the server to update Windows software.
  4. Reboot the PVC node.

Skipping step #2 will cause severe issues, including an inability to start any containers or an inability to manage the Node from PVC and PVA. If this happens, revert to the initial state by uninstalling the Microsoft and PVC updates and repeating the aforementioned steps.

Note: No Windows updates are supposed to be installed inside of containers. Only install them on a PVC Hardware Node.

NOTE: Prior to the first updates installation read the article about supported and unsupported updates in Parallels Virtuozzo Containers for Windows.
