Symptoms

Parallels Plesk Panel (PP) version 9 is running.

I have created a PP backup through Parallels Plesk Panel {Home -> Backup Manager -> Back Up} or {Home -> Reseller Accounts -> RESELLER.NAME -> Client Accounts -> CLIENT.NAME -> Backup Manager -> Back Up}.
I have uploaded the backup file with the option {Download backup file to your personal workstation}. It is a floppy-disk icon near the backup name. I have unpacked the archive with tar -zxf. For example, this is a backup of the client CLIENT:

~# cd /PATH/TO/BACKUP
~# tar -zxf backup_CLIENT_info_0903130800.xml.tgz
~# ls -l
total 5528
-rw-r----- 1 root root   25160 2009-03-12 08:10 backup_CLIENT_info_0903130800.xml
-rw-r--r-- 1 root root 5611680 2009-03-12 08:13 backup_CLIENT_info_0903130800.xml.tgz
drwxr-xr-x 3 root root    4096 2009-03-12 08:10 domains
~#

Then I modified the .xml file and archived the backup again with tar -zcf, including the .xml file and the directory "domains."

When I try uploading the archive with the {Upload Files to Server Repository} button, the error below is shown and the backup file is not uploaded.

Error: pmm-ras error (Error code = 1):
== STDOUT ====================
Archiver error: unable to extract files from /tmp/phpWtHGvj

==============================
== STDERR ====================

==============================

How can I archive the backup to be able to upload it to Parallels Plesk Panel?

Resolution

In version 9, a PP backup consists of an .xml configuration file and archives with data and technical backup configuration in the directory .discovered. For details, see this article: [Info] Backup structure in Parallels Plesk Panel.
When repacking a backup, all of these parts should be included.

You may check backup content with tar -tzvf  for backup_CLIENT_info_0903130800:

~# tar -tzvf backup_CLIENT_info_0903130800.xml.tgz

Modify the required .xml files and repack the backup. When repacking, all the required parts should be included:

~# tar -czvf backup_CLIENT_info_0903130800_.xml.tgz backup_CLIENT_info_0903130800.xml \
 .discovered/backup_CLIENT_info_0903130800/* \
 domains/DOMAIN.TLD/* \
 domains/DOMAIN.TLD/.discovered/backup_DOMAIN.TLD_info_0903130800/*

After repacking the new backup, backup_CLIENT_info_0903130800_.xml.tgz can be uploaded with the option {Download backup file to your personal workstation} on the "Backup Manager" page.
