The article describes how to create an application template containing MUI for IE8.

IMPORTANT! This article is applicable for IE8 only, and will not work for IE9 (details).

Perform the following steps to create Internet Explorer 8 MUI pack template, for example German:

  1. Create container using Virtuozzo Template Creation Wizard.

  2. Install German OS Language Pack for Windows 2008 inside the container.

  3. Download IE8 German Language Pack, IE8-Windows6.0-LanguagePack-x64-DEU.msu.

  4. Unpack the required installer using this command:

    expand -f:* IE8-Windows6.0-LanguagePack-x64-DEU.msu C:\Temp
  5. Run next command to install IE8 German Language Pack:

    pkgmgr.exe /ip /m:"C:\temp\"

Note: On this step it is necessary to monitor list of processes running inside CT using Task Manager. Namely monitor pkgmgr.exe process. The pkgmgr.exe process is running in background and once the process disappears, it means that IE8 MUI package is installed.

  6. A soon as the installation is finished, it needs to proceed template creation.

  • 2-5 steps should be done within the temporary container when Virtuozzo Template Creation Wizard is running.
  • IE locale becomes German after switching OS locale of the given container to German.
