Virtuozzo containers for Windows supports a wide range of antivirus software products. In order to ensure flawless interaction with Virtuozzo containers, Virtuozzo regularly performs compatibility tests, working closely with antivirus software vendors and issuing Virtuozzo containers software updates when necessary.
Please use this article as a reference point when determining the antivirus solution for your Virtuozzo containers Windows systems. Prior to using information from this article, make sure your Virtuozzo containers servers are running with the latest patch applied.
Note that all antivirus solutions described below must only be installed on the node. Antivirus programs installed on the node protect all containers automatically. Antivirus installation inside containers is not supported.
Antivirus software compatibility with Virtuozzo containers:
Symantec Endpoint Protection
- 11.0.6 (update 6)
- 12.1 RU5 (12.1.5337.5000)
Note: Symantec Endpoint Protection agent is supported from the VZU460075 update.
McAfee VirusScan Enterprise
- 8.7i (patch 5).
- 8.8 (patch 2).
- 8.8 (patch 4).
These versions are supported for Windows Server 2003 (R2) SP2, Windows Server 2008 SP2, and Windows Server 2008 (R2) with/without SP1.

Warning: If you plan to use the McAfee antivirus software, first install Virtuozzo containers 4.6 on the server. Then, proceed with installing the antivirus program.
Warning: AVG 9.0 auto-protect scanner blocks viruses from loading, but cannot delete them. To delete viruses, run a virus scan in the %vz% folder.
